it took about a week before i realized that my yashica's lens had cracked enroute to japan.

devastated and terrified at the thought of what I had lost, anticipation and curiosity slowly grew at what would be developed.

after first seeing these, my friend ryan explained their accuracy to memory.
these truly are the vignettes of my past.

my dear friend Ed and I decided to nix our original plan of cocktails and catch-up,
and raced to catch the opening of Ada/Ava by Manual Cinema.
I was a fool to have watched the preview clip beforehand,
yet still managed to be blown away by the story and production.
For a duration, we were like children swimming in dream particles,

"In 1898, Spain ceded the Philippines to the United States. Under American control, the new government invited Daniel Burnham to plan a modern Manila. The Burnham Plan was a project that attempted to create Manila as Paris on the Prairie, with a vision of a government center occupying all of Wallace Field, which extends from Luneta to the present Taft Avenue. The Philippines Capitol was to rise on the Taft Avenue end of the field, facing toward the sea, and would form, with the buildings of different government bureaus and departments, a mighty quadrangle, lagoon in the center and a monument to Rizal at its Luneta end. Of Burnham’s proposed government center, only three units were built: the Legislative Building and the building of the Finance and Agricultural departments, which were completed on the eve of the War. By then, President Manuel L. Quezon had doomed the Burnham Plan by creating a new capital outside Manila, which was named after him, Quezon City."

just found the Talking Heads 1975 CBS Demo Session album today and its easily become my evening jam. damn this is good. still as a three piece band this is talking head's earliest known studio recording and the sound is tight. recorded at CBS Studio in NYC.
Psycho Killer comes first on this demo and to pair it is a video i found from the same year.
so fresh.

Despite a few days to recover I am happy to say that I am finally part of a new studio. Still new to the space and community I'm so happy to call this place a new home. The night before I left for Chicago, with Catarina asleep, I rolled out of bed to paint her these hearts that wrap her apartment building and that can be seen outside her study room or on her way to work. We typically paint hearts when we are together in Coimbra, but that night was different because she was not feeling well. The following day, en route to the airport, I told her to photograph each and send them to me upon my arrival to Chicago, so that I can share them with you.

i happily stumbled upon this poster at quimby's today!
definitely a delight and a sugar cube to my break.

Illustrated by Matt Bergstrom the full color poster features the arch entries of 5 Sullivan buildings.
One of which is the beautiful Pilgrim Baptist Church that was victim to a fire over 4 years ago.
"Only two of the five buildings are still standing as they were built. The illustrations for the others were drawn using extensive research from historic photographs to recreate the doorways as they once appeared." (ha-yah!!)
